The healing Power of Music in My Journey

When I think back on my hardest days, the long chemo treatments, the sleepless nights, the moments where fear felt louder than hope, there’s one thing besides my faith that kept showing up and carrying me through: music.
Music wasn’t just background noise. It was my steady companion.
It became a way to fuel my faith, to remember God’s promises, and to calm my mind when my thoughts started spiraling out of control.
How Music Strengthened My Faith
There were days when opening my Bible felt too heavy, when I couldn’t find the words to pray. On those days, worship music became my prayer.
The lyrics reminded me of truth when I couldn’t think straight. The melodies washed over me like a blanket of peace, and I could feel God’s presence in the room.
Songs like Praise by Elevation Worship with Israel Houghton and Waymaker by Michael W. Smith reminded me that I wasn’t alone. They lifted my eyes off fear and back onto God’s promises, reminding me:
As long as I’m breathing, I have a reason to praise the Lord.
“You are the light of the world —like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”
This verse reminded me that even in my weakest moments, I could still shine God’s light. Sometimes, all it took was singing along to just one more song.
Music was Our Family’s Love Language
Music has always been a huge part of our lives. We don’t just listen — we live to it.
Whether it’s dancing in the kitchen while dinner’s cooking, singing along in the car, or having impromptu “concert nights” at home, music is a love language we share as a family.
During treatment, those moments meant everything. Sometimes, my kids would put on silly songs and dance around the living room just to make me laugh. Other times, we’d put on soft worship and sit quietly together, letting the peace sink in.
My Playlist for Hard Seasons
Because music was such a saving grace for me, I put together a Spotify playlist of uplifting worship songs for anyone walking through a storm.
It’s full of songs that got me through my toughest days, songs that might lift your heart and remind you that you’re not alone, no matter what you’re facing.
If you ever need a little extra encouragement, you can find my playlist here:
Final Thought
Music has this beautiful way of reaching places in our hearts that words alone can’t.
If you’re in a hard season, I encourage you to let music speak to you. Let it remind you of God’s faithfulness, calm your anxious thoughts, and lift your spirit when you feel too tired to keep going.
Because sometimes, all it takes is a song to shift the atmosphere of your heart, and remind you that hope is still alive.
