The Verses That Carried Me Through and How They Can Encourage You Too
When I walked into the storm of chemo and the unknowns that came with it, I held on to one thing I knew would not change: God’s Word. There were days when I felt broken, afraid, and so unsure of what tomorrow would hold. But in those moments, scripture became my lifeline. These verses carried me through my most challenging days, reminded me of my purpose, and helped me restore my family and our faith.
My prayer is that the same words that strengthened me will bring hope to you, wherever you are in your journey.
Strength in the Storm
“Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”
Reflection: In hospital rooms and on days when I felt like I couldn’t go on, this verse reminded me I was not walking alone. God’s presence was my courage.
Prayer Thought: Lord, remind me that Your strength is greater than my fear.
“The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him”
Reflection: Trouble came in waves but so did God’s goodness. I found refuge in Him, even when the storm felt relentless.
Prayer Thought: Thank You for being my refuge and holding me close when I can’t hold myself together.
Trusting God’s Plan
“For I Know the plans I have for you says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope”
Reflection: This verse spoke to me when my future felt uncertain. Cancer didn’t get the final say, God’s plan did.
Prayer Thought: Lord, even when I don’t understand, help me trust that You hold my future.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose”
Reflection: Even the painful pieces of my story were not wasted. God wove them into something bigger than I could see.
Prayer Thought: Turn my pain into purpose, Lord.
Walking in Purpose
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere”
Reflection: Surviving wasn’t just about me, it was about sharing my story and giving God glory.
Prayer Thought: Holy Spirit, use me to shine light on Your goodness.
““In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.””
Reflection: This verse reminded me that even small acts— kindness to my kids, encouraging others, carry eternal weight.
Prayer Thought: Let my life be a light that points back to You.
Restoring Family & Faith
“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”
Reflection: Cancer stripped away distractions. What mattered most was loving well—my family, my faith, my walk with God.
Prayer Thought: Help me keep life simple, focused on mercy, love, and humility.
“Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”
Reflection: When anxiety tried to take over, this verse shifted my perspective back to eternity.
Prayer Thought: Lord, fix my eyes on what truly matters.
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise… He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”
Reflection: God’s patience reminded me of His mercy, not just for me, but for my whole family. Healing wasn’t only physical; it was spiritual restoration.
Prayer Thought: Thank You, Lord, for Your patience with me and with my family.
Gratitude in All Seasons
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it”
Reflection: God’s Word was my lifeline. The more I soaked in it, the more peace I found.
Prayer Thought: Keep my heart rooted in Your Word, Lord.
“For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation”
Reflection: Through every high and low, God’s love and faithfulness never left me. And I know He is covering my children and their children, too.
Prayer Thought: Thank You for Your faithfulness that never ends.
A Final Word
These verses carried me through the hardest season of my life. They reminded me of my purpose, restored my faith, and renewed my hope for my family’s future. If you are walking through your own storm, whether it’s illness, loss, or just a season of uncertainty—may these words breathe strength and peace into you, too.
Because hope doesn’t come from our circumstances, it comes from God✨
And that’s why Hope Wears Boots💛
